Hobbits are named Periannath in Elvish, meaning halfling. It is said that because of their diminutive stature, growing usually to around 3 feet. They also never grow beards, or wear shoes, and have hairy feet. Hobbits are of three kinds, Stoor, Fallohides, and Harfoots, each differing in stature and living preferences. Hobbits live a set back, yet bustling lifestyle. Hobbits, with an exception to a few, are not adventurous and rarely venture out of their home, the Shire, where all hobbits live except a few. They smoke an invention of theirs called pipe weed. They are usually cheerful and like parties, and they throw extravagant ones. The members of the Fellowship of the Ring Frodo, Merry, Sam, and Pippin, were hobbits.
